Online terms or jargons:
1. Harvest information - to collect some data.
2. Personal data - any information concerning your home address, phone number, social security number, etc.
3. Give consent - to permit to do sth.
4. Terms and Conditions - special and general arrangements, requirements and rules which form an integral part of a contract or agreement.
5. Scroll - tо follow the page up and down.
6. Alarming - frightening or worrying.
7. Newsfeed - a list of status updates and other activity from those that you are friends with or subscribed to.
8. Tag people - to include someone in a post or a status update.
9. Going viral - sharing something via email or social media that spreads quickly to millions of people online. E.g.:The video went viral on social media.
10. Trend - (of a topic) be the subject of many posts on a social media site or application or fashion or sales within a short period of time. E.g.: I've just taken a quick look at what's trending on Twitter right now.
11. Doom-scrolling - the activity of scrolling endlessly on the Internet. E.g.: It is very east to get caught up in the cycle of doom-scrolling, even if we feel that we should do something.
12. Fomo - “fear of missing out” referred to the desire to stay continually connected with what others were doing. This feeling was associated with compulsively checking for status updates and messages on social media, for fear of missing a social opportunity. E.g.: I have a cold, but my deep-seated FOMO made me come to this party. Blame FOMO; that’s why he drove all the way to this concert.
13. Jomo - short for “joy of missing out”. E.g.:
- Dude, did you go to that awesome party last night?
- No, I was home watching a movie. JOMO!
14. Mainstream - the ideas, attitudes, or activities that are shared by most people and regarded as normal or conventional. E.g.: It is rare that mainstream audiences want such stories now.
15. Cancel culture - cancel, boycott a person, opinion, or work that is unconventional, mainly on social media platforms. E.g.: Cancel culture punishes people who break the rules by saying the wrong thing.
16. Technophile - a person who is enthusiastic about new technology. E.g.: Mike is an extreme technophile who listens to techno and collects iPods.
17. Technophobe - a person who fears, dislikes, or avoids new technology. E.g.: Technophobe Sims hate television. They will never watch television except in dire circumstances and will always look for an alternative source of entertainment.
18. Net-savvy - knowledge of the internet. E.g.: South Korea is one of the most Internet savvy countries in the world. It turns out they are quite internet savvy and knew exactly what a IP addresses and sockpuppets(fake identity) are.
19. Echo chamber - an environment where a person only encounters information or opinions that reflect and reinforce their own.
20. Filter bubble - caused by algorithms that personalize an individual’s online experience. can cause users to get significantly less contact with contradicting viewpoints, causing the user to become intellectually isolated.
21. Clickbait - is a text or a thumbnail link that is designed to attract attention and to entice users to follow that link and read. E.g.: Clickbait headlines are attention-grabbers and keep people intrigued with curiosity. They are short, tempting readers to click on them.
22. Live stream - E.g.: the royal wedding was live-streamed on Facebook.
23. Troll/bully - E.g.: I fell victim to the office bully.
